白內障是眼睛內其中一個結構隨年齡增長出現變化所引致，這個結構就是晶體，位於眼睛內較前的部分。瞳孔讓光線進入眼睛，而瞳孔的後面就是晶體，晶體可幫助光線聚焦在視網膜，如果光線不能聚焦在視網膜，就會造成很深的遠視。
